Frustration

What do you do when your technology doesn’t work? It is your primary means of communication and your connection with the outside world. And it has seemingly taken on a life of its own, typing gibberish and clicking on pages you do not want to use and refusing to go where you want it. Well if you’re me ,and you can’t stamp your feet or just go and do something else for a while, you cry, and you cry a lot because not only are you crying because your technology isn’t working, you’re crying because you are unable to tell anyone why you are crying. It is frustration beyond frustration. And this is your new device – the one with far better sound quality and battery life.

Your son graciously and willingly gives up Saturday afternoon to try to figure out the problem and it works better for a while, long enough to make you feel better about it. And then you move it a couple times just switching from bed to wheelchair and back. By Monday morning all bets are off and the device seems only good for watching YouTube videos that someone else chooses for you. By Monday afternoon you are asking for the old device which at least tracks your gaze most of the time despite freezing and crashing frequently.

Well this story is to be continued, hopefully with an update to say that the bugs have been fixed and the device is working as it should be. But what did I do besides cry? I spent a lot of time watching the screen changes on the device and I spent some time praying (probably not enough), and I spent some time trying to communicate, and I spent some time feeling sorry for myself (probably more than I should have).

I think I have more questions than answers about why God allows such difficult situations to happen to us. All I know is that He is not done writing my story just like I am not done writing my own story.

  2. Oh I had so hoped the bugs had been worked out of your tech issues. I think calling it frustrating is a total understatement and I’m so sorry. I’m not sure if it helps to know that God hears you and weeps with you. 😢

  3. Oh, Karen. I remember Bill’s frustration from learning his new computer. You cannot even put into words the frustration and discouragement that you feel. I am so sorry you are having to go through this.

  4. Karen, We are all hurting with you in your frustrations, and yet in awe of how you encourage all of us by your posts! It must take so much effort to write what you want us to know. Praying specifically for a better day with the technology today. How wonderful to have a God that hears and knows the groans of our hearts. Love, hugs, tears and prayers from our household.
